I have never had the choice of a candidate who looked like me, so I am accustomed to voting for those with whom I am not fully or even mostly aligned on the issues. I am a moderate. I was a registered Republican all my life until recently, but I would not have described myself as a die-hard Republican or Conservative at any point in time. My positions on fiscal issues have always leaned to the right, and my positions on social issues have always leaned to the left.
If I examine how my views have changed in recent years, I know I have shifted further to the left on most issues. I am not sure if this is due to a true shift in fundamental beliefs or if I am reacting to the evolving positions of the Republican Party which I fully reject.
Time will tell.
